Our Hotel is located in Isohara, which is in the northernmost city of Kita-Ibaraki in Ibaraki prefecture.
Isohara is a small seaside town in Ibaraki blessed with excellent fishing grounds and fertile soil. It has been known for its fishery, agriculture, and cattle rearing since the ancient times.
It is a treasure house of produce from the sea and the mountains. The area is rich in nature of the four seasons with the beautiful beaches famously admired by Okakura Tenshin who is considered to one of the founding fathers of modern Japanese art, and valleys where visitors enjoy foliage in autumn and the fresh green leaves in early summer.

Futatsushima is an island that stands about 10 meters away from the beach in front of the hotel and is known as the breeding ground for cormorants. At the time of the 2011 earthquake, the island shielded the hotel from the direct impact of tidal waves.
It is one of the most well-known spiritual spots in northern Ibaraki and was selected as one of the 100 scenic locations in Ibaraki.
A scenic location off to the north from the shore of Isohara beach that was selected as one of the “100 Beaches in Japan” and “100 Sound-scapes in Japan,” with a beautiful cliff and a bay corroded by the Pacific Ocean waves. Tourists can visit “Rokkaku-do,” which was built by Okakura Tenshin. Tenshin was a philosopher who contributed to introducing the appeal of Japanese art internationally during the Meiji era.
A valley located in the mountains about 20-30 minutes by car from the hotel, with hardwood trees such as maple and magically beautiful streams. There are hiking courses that start from the Hanazono Shrine with its pristine atmosphere located next to the valley. Please enjoy the scenery of the magical waterfalls, the fresh green leaves and the foliage of the changing seasons, full of negative ions.
The museum displays many excellent works by artist and philosopher Okakura Tenshin and artists such as Yokoyama Taikan who was active in northern Ibaraki. The museum was designed by the architect Naito Hiroshi who is known for designing many public facilities such as museums and train stations.
The poet Noguchi Ujo grew up in Isohara-machi in Kita-Ibaraki city. Noguchi is known as one of the three great lyricists in Japan along with Kitahara Hakushu and Saijo Yaso, and provided the lyrics for elementary school anthems all over Japan and famous children’s songs such as “Nanatsu no ko,” “Shabon dama,” and “Akai kutsu.” This special museum will allow visitors to learn about his life and immerse themselves in the warm sense of nostalgia and memories of home.
